What's Your Opinion of Parent/Child Pacts?

I think it's a healthy way to express you wants and morals as a parent to your child in a soft way - so long as you don't treat them like edicts and teach your children they can make their own cases. If they are healthy pacts for the benefit of the child and family I am all for it. Like: Make me a pact you will graduate college, or come to me if you need support.

I don't see the point. Have honest and open discussions with your children and trust them to make good decisions.
