Twins typically have to share everything, from the womb to a birthday. But a pair of Delano, CA newborns have broken from tradition in a most unusual way. The brother and sister were born just 18 minutes apart – but in different calendar years! The first twin, a boy named Joaquin Jr. Ontiveros, was born at 11:58 p.m. on New Year's Eve 2017, while the second twin, a girl named Aitana de Jesus Ontiveros, reportedly had to be delivered via C-section at 12:16 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2018.
In addition to having a very different birthday than her brother, Aitana also has the honor of being the first baby born in Kern County in 2018. While the twins weren't due for nearly another month, the parents are said to be thrilled with their two healthy bundles of joy. So just how rare are twins with different birthdays? Very!
