A Diet Book For 6 Year Olds?

A Diet Book For 6 Year Olds?

A controversial book called "Maggie Goes On A Diet" is hitting the shelves this fall, telling the story of a pudgy young girl in pursuit of weight loss. Once at a lighter weight, she becomes her school's soccer star. Here's what has critics up in arms: The suggested reader age range is 6 to 10 years on Barnes & Noble's website, and 4 to 8 on Amazon.

Author Paul M. Kramer is under fire from nutritionists and pediatricians and more than a few parents, for taking what they consider an uninformed approach to addressing weight issues among children and furthering damaging stereotypes.

Do you think diets are an appropriate response to growing child obesity rates?

I think it's fine to create a book about HEALTHY LIVING! It's ridiculous to target kids for 'DIET!' Too many kids are so hung up on their image that they focus in on eating, what they eat, when they eat and how to be thinner than Twiggy (remember her? I'm telling my age now) While I'm not for banning books, per se, this one would certainly be on my short list for a ban! I'd decidedly support and promote a BOYCOTTE AGAINST something THIS STUPID! Am I being clear enough here?
