My husband is Mexican and I get really confused sometimes because his cousin's kids call him uncle and our son is uncle to her grandkids...it's a culture thing I think. In my extended family they do the second-cousin/third-cousin thing, which I think is just as confusing.

Thanks, Greggie.

My husband's brothers kids call me "aunt," too. I'd never heard otherwise until this thread.

This was silly.

oops "uncle" not "and" though that would be a different custom

That's what I thought too, Kikidawn...if they were (or not) legally considered "uncles". So I chose "no relation" based on my own experience, I guess I'm not that close to my aunts anyway.

10/10! I call all of my aunts' husbands "and" and also my uncles' wives I know as "aunts." My husband's brother's and sister's children call me aunt. I thought this was pretty standard, but judging from the comments, I guess not. And--when did we start getting points for quizzes? awesome! I can't resist a quiz.

Easy, but it brought me back to my cultural anthropology class where we had to learn family naming systems by culture/tribe. I can still hear my professor droning on "in this culture, your mother's brother is...your father. Your sister's cousin is your aunt" on and on in his Liberian accent. It was torture! Also to note that this quiz was also based on some cultures and not others.

eveday, that one kind of made me second guess too. While I don't have any aunts by blood that are married I do have uncles by blood that are. I called their wives "aunt", but I didn't know if legally (or w/e this quiz is gaged by) they are uncles.

That was easy. :)

And I swear I never called "uncle" any of my aunts' husbands.

I thought this was going to be this person is your "step-sixteenth cousin once removed" thing...these were easy.

I got 9/10. I thought I had the wrong choice so I changed it, but it was right. It was about the stepchildren's mom. I read it wrong.
