The real question with Caillou (and many of these shows!) is why such whiney voices and tones are used! I understand that young children react positively to higher pitched modulation, but there's a vast difference between higher octaves and whining. Nothing makes me change a channel faster than hearing the whining voice (and often petulant commentary) of Caillou and some of the other PBS characters.
