Since its release last year, the Disney movie Frozen has given rise to countless YouTube renditions of the song 'Let It Go,' an all-out frenzy for Elsa-and-Anna merchandise and now a hot new baby name trend.
An instant hit, the animated tale of two sisters from Arendelle has become a permanent fixture in many families' lives. If you're a parent, you've probably had the soundtrack running through your head for the past 6 months. If you're under 10 years old, you've likely practiced your icy magic in the frozen foods aisle of the local grocery store. I dare anyone to ask, 'Do you want to build a snowman?' without doing it in the lilting, sing-song voice of adorable little Olaf.
So perhaps it's not surprising that parents seem to be finding baby name inspiration in Frozen's cast of characters.
After poring through the database of over 555,000 baby names, BabyCenter editors discovered that Anna, Elsa, Hans, Kristoff, Sven and even Olaf have all enjoyed a surge in popularity over the past year. Take a look…
Those are some pretty impressive numbers! The fact that Anna didn't make the big leap that Elsa did likely doesn't reflect parents' preference for one sister over another, but rather the fact that Anna was already a very popular pick before Frozen came onto the scene. As for Olaf, well, it seems even the world's cutest snowman can't seem to break that Norse name into the top 400.
This isn't the first time we've seen pop culture crazes spill over into baby name picks in recent years: The Hunger Games, Fifty Shades of Grey and even the reality show Duck Dynasty have all sparked trends.
Would you consider a Frozen-inspired baby name? Or do you steer clear of trends?
