For me: "I haven't been away from Lena overnight since she was born, but I think I'm finally ready to give it a try. Of course, if Santa brings me a weekend stay at the Solage in Calistoga, I'll be too busy getting pampered to feel the need to check in with the sitter every 10 minutes.
For my daughter (Lena, 1): "My 1 year old is such a snuggle bunny, I'm getting her a wee-sized plush chair that I'd curl up in, if only I could fit. Also, we've read to Lena since she was in my tummy, and now that she's very engaged with story time, I want to add some of my favorite childhood books, including Corduroy and Snowy Day into the rotation."
For my husband: "I cut out coffee about four years ago, but my main man still mainlines the stuff. We always feel wasteful brewing a whole pot for one person, so I'm thinking he will appreciate a single-serve coffee maker and a good travel mug to keep it hot on the way to the office."
For the grandparents: "I love the plush down jackets from Patagonia, but here on the West Coast, we don't have to worry about sub-zero temperatures. Instead, I'll keep grandma and grandpa toasty in ultra light down jackets from Uniqlo: as the name implies, they are light as a feather and about a third of the price of the Patagonia versions."
