I have never understood the gifts for the nurses thing, but then again none of my nurses during my day long labor or 3 day stay were anything more then curt. Plus, I agree, its their job, and not one they depend on tips to pay the bills with, so i dont agree with gifts as a general rule, espeically since you see like 20 different nurses during your stay. I hardly saw the same nurse at all. I had one nurse that sat there with me for her entire shift, but she looked jazzed at the opportunity to sit on her rear for 8 hours. I think there are other experiences that more warrent a gift. Hospital stays like NICU and severe diseases for children - they often have only 2 nurses that split shifts the entire time, so its more of a personal experience.
