We love our iPads and desktop computers. My kids use Solar Walk to explore the galaxy. It's incredibly useful because I never took astronomy (their dad did) and they can make discoveries on their own. At a young age (starting 18 months) both of my kids have become technically savvy. It's incredibly useful because new technology provides different mediums for learning. They've also introduced iPads and iMacs in the classroom and my kids spend more learning about reading then trying to maneuver through the websites. I often volunteer in the class and some kids need help just because they click out of the web browser or click on the wrong link. We are also a family of athletes. At 4 and 6 my children are in karate and dance 3-5 times a week and they play at the gym and dojo for all of my workouts. Their dad is an engineer by day and wrestling coach for high school. So contrary to popular belief not all techies are couch potatoes. ;)

I have a novel idea. How about just not letting them use it? Shock!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kids don't have to be on electronics to learn. Get them outside; play games with them. You know - be a parent
