Every birth is special, but baby Evie is a downright miracle. Her mom, Jodie, was diagnosed with cancer of lymphocytes [3], commonly known as follicular lymphoma, when she was 23 years old. In order to cure the serious disease, Jodie underwent months of serious treatment that left her infertile.

But Jodi knew that she wanted to be a mom and before she began chemotherapy, she went through in vitro fertilization in an attempt to produce eggs that could be frozen and used after treatment. Unfortunately, the IVF failed and Jodi was left with one last option: to graft her ovarian tissue to her pelvic and abdominal walls.

Jodie is only the second woman in the world to successfully conceive and give birth this way. During the process, Jodie's ovarian tissue was frozen before she began treatment. She later grafted the healthy tissue back into the pelvic and abdominal walls. Then, it was stimulated to produce eggs that were later fertilized through IVF. After five tries of IVF, 10 months of attempting to conceive, and a six-week premature birth, Evie was born. She joined a set of twins who were also born thanks to the same procedure in 2013.
