Interview With Alicia Keys About Motherhood and App

Alicia Keys Launches Storybook App For Kids and Talks Poop With Us

Our mom crush on Alicia Keys just intensified. As if the Grammy-winning mom of 2-year-old Egypt wasn't cool enough, she's now entering the kid space in a totally unique way. Rather than release an album full of lullabies (which we would have bought up in a second; I mean, have you heard her voice?), she's going interactive with The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee ($4), a storytelling app that uses beautiful animation, original music produced, scored, and sung by Keys, and an engaging story about the relationship of a young girl and her grandma, that closely mirrors the one Keys had with her own Nana.

Kids can explore their way around the main character's 3D animated room — playing her piano, writing in her journal, listening to her music box, and reading stories on her bookshelf. The app also includes games and the option to purchase additional story packs so the tales never grow old. We had the chance to speak with Keys about the app, how motherhood has changed her, and the best trick her own mom taught her! Check it out!
