Introducing Siblings

Family Ties: Introducing the Siblings

Thrilled for the birth of their second child, many parents are also fearful of how their first born will react. I tried to prepare my daughter for her sibling's arrival with books, baby dolls, and grand stories, but only time would tell how she would handle the new addition.

After my son was born, my husband went home and picked up our now "big" girl and brought her back to the hospital. As planned, the two of them went to the nursery to "pick him out" from behind a glass window. They brought him back to the room and we gave her a few gifts from her little brother. She put on her fresh "big sister" tee and devoured the chocolate frosted cupcake like a queen bee. Being a big sister wasn't so bad. Since then, she has continued to love up on her lil brother and only occasionally asking me to put him in the swing so we can hang out alone. I have a feeling the rivalry will kick in when the wee one starts to eat chocolate.
