Jessica Biel Confesses She Felt Like a "Failure" For Having a C-Section Over a Natural Birth

When Jessica Biel was pregnant with her son Silas in 2015, she and Justin Timberlake had planned an at-home, natural birth. However, that didn't end up happening, and Biel was transferred to a hospital to have an emergency C-section. Now, three years later, the 36-year-old actress is revealing how she felt after her birthing plan was forced to change.

"That was a very transformative experience because I had such a plan . . . and everything happened the opposite way," Biel told Entertainment Tonight, adding that it was a good lesson for her for the future that you can't plan everything, especially when it comes to motherhood. "I'm just in awe of women that have natural birth and if I have the opportunity to try it again and do it again, it will be amazing. And, if not, I don't have that feeling anymore. I don't have that intense drive, that will make me more of a woman, or more of a mother, or I failed — because I felt as if I had failed him, because my body didn't work the way it was supposed to work."

Biel's experience might not have been what she wanted, but if Timberlake gets his wish, the two will be expanding their family. In the mean time, Biel is speaking out to help those who might have been through the same thing.

"I think its important to talk about these things because there is so much shame and guilt wrapped around motherhood and birth; and what it means, and how it happens, and how you do it, and what your choices are," she said. "It's important just to say: 'Well, this is what happened, and you know what? I'm here and he's here, and that's what we needed to make happen.'"
