Back of Jon and Kate Plus 8: Stay Close or Flee With Opportunity? Jon and Kate Gosselin may be in the midst of a divorce, but their show will return with new episodes Monday. During the hiatus, the former couple took time to focus on their family and navigate their way through the difficult time. They made it clear that the Gosselin abode was purchased for their eight children and that the parents would rotate turns with the twins and sextuplets. Jon recently purchased a Manhattan bachelor pad where he stays when Kate has the kids. Earlier this week, it was rumored that Kate had her sights set on property in Maryland, but the story was refuted when statements were made that the reality mom plans to remain close to her children even when it's Jon's turn to care for them. If you were in this situation, would you take advantage of the freedom to flee during your breaks or would you stay near? But also take some 'me' time despite the proximity, just because you're a mom, doesn't mean you're not entitled to a little 'me' time too, jmho (although personally I'd feel too badly :sigh: ). mhg 7 years I wouldn't want to venture too far away from those kiddos, given how Jon's been acting lately (from what we've seen in the media). There's no telling how his midlife crisis will affect his judgement. I'm not saying he's a bad father or would endanger his children, I just think he seems so indifferent and distracted with his newfound "freedom" (i.e. new girlfriends, earrings, pot-smoking, etc.) And, school-aged kids have a ton of activities during the week and weekend (sports, recitals, etc.). I wouldn't want to miss them because I was partying in NYC. Ericka 7 years I'd do both. While I'd probably purchase a residence close to home. I would take the time for myself as well from time to time. I think sometimes parents should allow themselves some free time away from the kids without guilt. GlowingMoon 7 years Tough decision. I don't envy her. :) lccc 7 years If I divorced my husband it would be really hard for both of us to spend time away from our son, even if it's just for a few days. I can't imagine either of us wanting to move away to another city in case of a separation. Young children are so cute, loving, and so much fun. FrankiLee 7 years I would want to stay close, like Chrstne above said, especially in case of emergency. I also don't think I could handle being far away from my kids for too long -- I miss my daughter enough when she's at her day care for the day! Chrstne 7 years I think it's better to stay close, in case of an emergency. Especially when they are or near school-age.
