Katherine Heigl Talks About Daughter Wearing Bikini

Katherine Heigl's Bikini Comment: Too Much or to the Point?

Hollywood is the land of physical and fashionable perfection, but does that pressure translate to celebrity moms and their tots? Katherine Heigl is the Harper's Bazaar June cover girl, and in the interview that accompanies her stunning photographs, the mother talks about the open heart surgery her daughter, Naleigh, underwent before leaving her native Korea. She also mentions how it affects the 18-month-old's wardrobe options. The actress said:

Her heart is 100 percent fine now. She has a scar, so she won’t be wearing bikinis, which is fine by us.

Do you think referencing the swimwear limitation was odd or ordinary?

Who cares about a scar? She should encourage her little girl to wear whatever she wants.

I doubt she intended it the way it came out, but it did sound a little bit shallow. I know that my boyfriend and I laugh about our daughters ears (inherited from my lovely bf!) and how she can grow her hair to cover them, but I think they're adorable and if she wants a pixie cut, so be it!

uh, that was supposed to be 'make -her- become self-concious'....I love my kid and think she is the prettiest little thing on earth!

My daughter's dad made similar comments about how she needed hair to cover up the birthmark on her head, and how he hoped it would go away so nobody would tease her. Some parents think their kids are perfect just the way they are, others fret about physical imperfections. Both love their kids like crazy, they just have different ways of expressing it. Neither way of thinking is wrong.

I really dislike her, but I talk about my baby the same way. Her head is a little misshaped from always sleeping on one side and I always joke about how she needs hair to cover it up. I also make fun about her being freakishly tall...But she's also still very young (way too young to understand). I know I'll have to stop saying these things around her because I don't want to become self-concious about these things.

It was a sweet comment by a concerned mom. Lighten up, people.

I think everyone is getting is mixed up. I assume she is referring to those two piece bathing suit for toddlers, which I am not a fan of. My daughter will NEVER wear a two piece bikini until she is out of my house.

I think whatever Katherine says is going to be taken out of context because people already don't like her. I don't think she said anything that bad.

"She should be careful not to make Naleigh self-conscious about it as she gets older. " Yeah I agree with this. Having said that, I dont think she was being 'shallow' ir vain by that comment, she was just stating the obvious and trying to maybe make the comment a little light hearted or something. I dont think it means she's a crappy mom. People read WAY too much into these kinds of things

"She should be careful not to make Naleigh self-conscious about it as she gets older. " that's what i was thinking anyways, it will not be mom's decision whether or not she wears a bikini

I sort of relate, my girl has a small scar on her butt and I thought, at least now she won't be a porn star. I wouldn't say it in a magazine interview though.

It comes across as "she has an imperfection and shouldn't wear a bikini." Maybe she didn't mean it that way, but it sounds shallow.

She's obviously a loving mom. I don't think she meant it to sound the way it may be coming across.

I don't think it's weird that it crosses her mind, but I agree with the above posters that she shouldn't make a big deal about it in front of her daughter.

She should be careful not to make Naleigh self-conscious about it as she gets older. I have a scar that runs the length of my stomach from a surgery I had as a child, and it is very obvious. I wore and still wear bikinis anyway, It's nothing to be ashamed of, it's just part of who you are!
