Little Girl Sends Postcard to Betsy DeVos

8-Year-Old Sends Betsy DeVos Earnest Plea About Her School: "Don't Tear It Down Ever"

When a second grader was struck with fear over what may happen to her public school in the future, she coped with the uncertainty in the most proactive way possible: by penning a heartfelt message to Betsy DeVos, the secretary of education herself. Journalist and CNN commentator Sally Kohn shared a photo on Instagram of the postcard that her 8-year-old daughter, Willa, wrote to DeVos, and it's the cutest thing we've seen all week.

While visiting a store that was exhibiting photography from the Women's March, Willa saw postcard versions of the photos, which customers were encouraged to use in order to send messages to political leaders. The young girl told her mom that she wanted to send a message to "the woman in charge of education," as Kohn described in her Instagram caption.

On the back of the card, the 8-year-old wrote about how much she loves her public school, which she has been attending for four years. She begged DeVos to "leave [our] public schools alone," followed by a plea to "not tear it down ever." Willa also professed something we've never heard from another second grader: "I love schools and I love everything about it," she wrote. This girl is truly one of a kind, and we love her young, budding political activism — and her fur coat!
