Mall Nursing Rooms

Should Malls Be Required to Have Nursing Rooms?

As a breastfeeding mother, I was thrilled to discover a spacious family room in my local mall that has a play area well equipped with toys, three nursing rooms with curtains and cushy chairs, a large screen tv and couch, and plentiful sinks that each have changing tables with mobiles built into the counter top next to them. Designed by what I can only imagine must be a genius architect (and probably a mother), it is located next to the food court. Thanks to some savvy urban planning, this is now my go-to place for one-stop shopping.

While it seems like a no-brainer for mall revenue, not every shopping center has such a family friendly facility — maybe they should?

I wish their were a lot more family rooms. My daughter is no longer in diapers but she still needs to use the potty when out with Dad and walking into a room with men at the urinals does not make me comfortable. Also yes I do think there should be nursing rooms.

I don't know if it should be required, but it would definitely be nice! Then again, if I was in one part of the mall and my baby was hungry and the nursing area was allllll he way on the other side, I probably wouldn't make the trek, but I'm one of those that isn't at all embarassed to nurse in public (covered). And yes, ALL men's bathrooms should have a changing station. That drives me INSANE.

"Required" to have nursing rooms? No. A smart business owner will try to accommodate nursing moms in a clean and comfortable way, though. I join in the chorus for more changing tables in men's rooms.

The bathroom is in a downtown shopping center in San Francisco.

yeah i'm with lil sugar about them adding changing tables on men's restrooms. i do think that mall should have nursing rooms,i remember when my son was an infant how hard it was with him when we would go to our local mall.he would get hungry and there were no place for me to nurse him privately.

I think they should also add changing tables in the men's restrooms. My husband often had a hard time finding a sanitary place to change our daughter when she was an infant and he was out with her.
