This Elderly Man Has Given His Wife the Same Valentine's Day Candy Every Year For 4 Decades

We apologize in advance if you wanted to spend Valentine's Day without crying, because this story of persevering love will make you all sorts of emotional. Ron Kramer, 77, a New Mexico retiree, has been giving his sweetheart — his 74-year-old wife, Donna — the same Valentine's Day chocolates every year for 39 years . . . and he's not letting Donna's residence at an assisted living facility stand in his way.

According to ABC News, Ron doesn't just buy Donna chocolates from the same local shop she loves — he actually reuses the same heart-shaped box she's loved since the '70s. It's seen better days, but the story behind the well-loved box will bring a tear to your eye.

Donna, who has survived a stroke and two fights with breast cancer, has been living in the assisted living facility since 2014, when she was diagnosed with dementia. Even though they live apart, Ron collects the vintage candy box and returns to fill it with Donna's favorite chocolates every February, and he'll continue to do so for the rest of their lives.

"I made a commitment, and the commitment's gonna be for the rest of our lives," Ron said in a local news video, which you can watch above. "I've been with her. I'll never leave her."

Pass the chocolates and the tissues, because this will warm even the biggest skeptic's heart! Watch the full video above, then read about the Kramers' four decades of enduring love on People.
