Pacifier Thermometer: Kid Friendly or Are You Kidding?

At first glance the Pacifier Thermometer from Summer Infant ($8) seems like a genius invention. The device beeps when your infant's temperature reading is complete and will glow red if the temperature registers at 99.9 degrees or higher. Of course, traditional and ear thermometers usually work just fine for testing a lil one's temperature. Would you buy one for the sake of comfort?

I think it seems nice and would be much easier for all involved, but if it's not accurate then it's pointless.

Unfortunately since it doesn't give an accurate read, it's pretty useless. I hate to have to use a rectal therm. but unfortunately that's the most accurate read for a baby

this sounds really simple, much easier

It's not accurate and only comes in one nipple shape. No, I don't use it.

Same for me, Vickibug. Plus, when my daughter was taking a pacifier, she only took a very specific one (soothie). If the nipple was different, she wanted nothing to do with it.

that looks like a great idea.

If it's not accurate...I wouldn't buy it.

this would have been great when i worked at a clinic...much better than rectal thermometers and the pee and poop that results at times...bleh

I think it's a good idea, especially if they are comfortable with a pacifier and fussy with thermometers. Btw, meandtheo - love the adorable Obama tee on your even cuter baby!!!

this is a bizarre Are you kidding? If you are fine with giving your child a paci why wouldn't you do this? Strange...seems like a stretch lilsugar.

The only problem with this is that my daughter wouldn't take a pacifier! But if she had, I might have been willing to give it a shot. I would want to be sure it was accurate, though, because those ear ones, while nice, apparently aren't always accurate.

My pediatrician's office doesn't recommend these b/c they don't give an accurate enough reading. But if they did, I would have been all for it.
