Police Rescue Toddler Kidnapped in Walmart

2-Year-Old Saved in Potential Walmart Abduction

It's a parent's worst nightmare when their child disappears. But thanks to the quick action of police, a 2-year-old girl who was taken hostage in an Oklahoma Walmart while her mother had her back turned to the shopping cart has been rescued, ABC News reports.

According to surveillance video from the Midwest City, OK, Walmart, Sammie Wallace grabbed a toddler from a shopping cart and held a knife to her throat for no apparent reason. Law enforcement quickly evacuated the store and tried to negotiate with Wallace, who has a history of mental illness and a violent arrest record. But when he threatened to kill the girl in 60 seconds, police took action, shooting Wallace in the head.

"Obviously, our goal was to talk him down to get him to release the child," Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said. "Unfortunately, we weren't successful but we were successful in saving this child."
