Your Body at 13 Weeks Pregnant

You’re really starting to show now, and people will start to notice. Besides your bump, you may notice some other changes in your body: namely, your breasts. Your breasts are getting bigger and heavier now, and while some women love these changes, others are less excited. Either way, it’s a good time to get yourself some new bras that offer you the support you need. Some moms splurge on a super-sexy bra at this time (these may be the breasts you’ve always wanted), while others choose to buy a cute nursing bra to wear now and after the baby is born.

This is the last week to get the nuchal translucency (NT) test if you're planning to do it. The results of this test, combined with the accompanying blood test that you did a week or so ago, will give you the probability of your baby having Down's Syndrome. Please remember that there will be another blood test, called the second trimester screen or Quad Screen, which can be done between 15 and 20 weeks of your pregnancy. The results of that test will be incorporated with the first trimester screen in order to give you a final result.

Your Baby at 13 Weeks Pregnant

Your baby is now about the length of a lime and weighs a little more than an ounce. She’s starting to inhale and exhale amniotic fluid, and her fingerprints are now fully formed. You should now be able to hear her heart beat with a baby heart Doppler placed on your lower abdomen. Go ahead and get a little teary when you hear that heartbeat; you’re not the first mom in the doctor’s or midwife’s office to do so. We promise.
