A Progressive Patriotic Party

Make Your Next Patriotic Party . . . Progressive!

The following post was written by Deborah Stumm, who blogs at Super Moms 360 and is part of POPSUGAR Select Moms.

Take your Fourth of July block party to the next level by making it . . . progressive! Gather your friends and neighbors for a fun-filled traveling block party including a patriotic kids parade from house to house, a star-spangled scavenger hunt, signature USA cocktails for the adults, and DIY desserts.

The setup: Select four houses around your neighborhood to be the driveway destinations for your progressive party. Showcase specific USA-themed food & activities at each. Here are some ideas to get you started!

House Number One — Appetizers & Patriotic Parade Preparation

USA Snack Mix & Independence Day Nachos (use blue corn tortilla chips, white cheddar, and salsa).

For the Kids
Have the kids decorate their bikes or scooters for the patriotic parade that will take place between houses. Use streamers, flags, bows, and balloons. Get creative!

For the Adults
Signature cocktail — Lovin' Our Independence Layered Cocktail (red, white & blue) — Add a splash of vodka to make the adult version. View the recipe here.

House Number Two — Salads & Star-Spangled Scavenger Hunt

Berry Patriotic Summer Salad — Add fresh strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries along with feta cheese to your mixed greens. Top with your favorite vinaigrette dressing.

For the Kids
Uncle Sam Scavenger Hunt — Have the kids search for USA-themed items such as flags, dollar bills, and stars.

For the Adults
USA Sangria — Use your favorite sangria recipe, and cut fruit like pineapple into stars with a cookie cutter.

House Number Three — Entrees & Activity Stations

Bust out the barbecue for Star-Spangled Sliders & Independence Day Dogs — complete with a bar of red, white, and blue toppings (blue cheese, tomatoes, and white cheddar).

For the Kids
Star & Stripes Stations — Apple Pie Pendulum (tie a string around the stems of two apples, coat with whipped topping, & tie to a broom handle; let the kids go head-to-head to see who can grab their apple first, using only their mouth!), Red, White & Blue Bowling (create "bowling pins" out of recycled two-liter soda bottles by filling them with red- & blue-colored water; have the kids roll a soccer ball and try to knock them down), and Patriotic Picture Frames.

For the Adults
Blue Star Spritzer — Add star-shaped ice cubes (made with a star ice cube tray) to a traditional Blue Hawaiian. Add a splash of lemon-lime soda for some sparkle!

House Number Four — DIY Desserts

Red, White, & Blueberry Kebabs with whipped cream & Berry Patriotic Cake.

For the Kids
Make-your-own ice cream cookie sandwiches. Place a scoop of ice cream in between two soft-baked chocolate chip cookies to make an ice cream sandwich. Roll the edges in patriotic sprinkles.

For the Adults
USA Strawberry Margarita (with a red, white, and blue strawberry garnish).
