Rachel Zoe Puts Pedialyte on Ice to Get Through Fashion Week

It turns out stylist Rachel Zoe doesn't just know how to dress a pregnant woman, she also knows how to use kid products to heal an aching adult body. The style maven put a photo on twitpic of Pedialyte on ice from Fashion Week, which got me thinking about grown-ups using goodies formulated for kids.

Pedialyte is an electrolyte drink that was "specifically designed to replace fluids and minerals (electrolytes) that are lost when a child has diarrhea with or without vomiting," but many adults — especially athletes — use it to replenish their bodies after times of stress, sickness and electrolyte loss. I've been known to snack on the Cliff Kid Z Bar instead of the jumbo-sized meal replacement Cliff bar, but I can't say I've used Pedialyte as a remedy.

While food and medicine made for little bodies don't offer us adults the full nutrition we need, I know many parents who pop a Children's Tylenol every now and again or steal beauty products from their kids. Do you ever use products intended for tots?

Rachel Zoe is obviously seriously ill with her eating habits. She was quoted as saying she's so busy during the day that by 7pm all she's eaten was a grapefruit and coffee. She makes a living stuffing celebrities into sample sizes. Pedialyte is clearly the only thing she consumes. Lack of electrolytes causes heart attacks in anorexics, she's consuming the BARE MINIMUM. Poor Rachel...

BUT I never knew that pedialyte was good for adults too! Definitely going to try this next time I'm sick. I'm like ilinac13, in that I can't keep down water when I'm sick so this seems like a good solution. Actually, does anyone know why water induces vomiting sometimes?

It kinda bothers me that Rachel Zoe, who is thin (for lack of a better work), consumes something "specifically designed to replace fluids and minerals (electrolytes) that are lost...with or without vomiting,"

I think Pedialyte is also used by people with eating disorders, to get nutrients without actually eating. I imagine, used this way, it could be a bit risky. Does anyone think Rachel Zoe LIVES on Pedialyte, while eating very little other food? She is so terribly thin.

Pedialyte is also a miracle hangover cure - especially pedialyte popsicles.

i've done the pedialyte thing all my life - especially since it comes in smaller sizes than gatorade. i'm not at all surprised that she's doing this and that it's more common place than you'd think.

We learned in our infectious diseases class that if you have diarrhea, esp travelers diarrhea when you go overseas, the BEST electrolyte replacement therapy is plain unflavored pedialyte, not gatorade (too much sugar in that.)

YES! I drank Pedialyte and Vitamin Waters when I had the flu. I couldnt keep down regular water. We also keep Pedialyte around after a night of wine...drink it before bed and when you wake up to keep away a hangover when you've had a few more glasses then you should. lol It really works and keeps you from being dehydrated/headaches/etc.

I've given pedialyte to my pup when she was sick and had the runs from both ends. I poured it in little ice cube trays and froze them for her.

Oh, yes! I actually stole one of my son's Cliff Z bars for breakfast this morning! When he was learning to self-feed, I think I ate as many of his Gerber Puffs as he did . . . I loved them!
