Sex-Ed Class Shames Students Into Abstinence

There is no easy way to talk about the the birds and bees, especially when abstinence becomes a topic. A school in Texas, however, has taken it to extremes by shaming students into staying virgins. Katie Gustainis Vela tweeted the school's sex-ed worksheets, which equated virgins to a fresh piece of gum. Rather than teaching tweens how to practice safe sex or even how to say no, teachers are telling fifth, sixth, and seventh graders that having sex turns them into a chewed piece of gum that no one would want. Not exactly the confidence boost they need.
