Shuttling kids between school, soccer practice, and running errands often means a lot of time in the car for families. Stopping to give the lil ones a healthy snack can take a chunk of time out of a packed schedule and often results in backseat snacking.
A recent post on the Consumer Reports blog got me thinking about the dangers of such a common mom practice. While driving to a new park, a mother tried to calm her cranky kids by handing them snacks to eat en route to their destination. Minutes later one of her tots began gagging on the cereal bar and proceeded to throw up all over himself. Between glances back at her son to make sure he was OK, the hysterical cries of her older child, and attempting to maneuver her car to the side of the road, the mother was beyond distracted. She has since vowed to stop feeding her kids while the car is in motion. Do you let your kids eat in the car?
