My niece is a HUGE reader, and when we were buying her these Junie B books, it was pointed out to us that a lot of the books written for that transition level (including Junie B) have really bad grammar and bad spelling and seem a little slapped together without a care as to the fact that kids are reading to get better at these skills. Reading us huge, and I spent my childhood working through the library... but I think it is important for some substance (Judy Blume!) rather than just light and pointless stuff...

My 8 year old absolutely LOVES reading. She thinks she's all grown up now because she's into chapter books. Junie B. is one of her favorite series. She's read just about every one of them. I'm very happy that she's so into reading at her age. I was not a big reader and didn't get into it until I was in my 20's.
