Teen Receives Life-Saving Transplant — from Her Parents

Raising a child with a chronic illness is never easy, but the parents of Tugce Basar, a Turkish teenager with Cystic Fibrosis, were able to give their daughter a truly remarkable gift this month: part of their lungs.

Both parents donated a portion of their lungs in a rare, live-organ transplant after they both proved to be a tissue match for their daughter. All three came out of the nine-hour operation successfully, and are recovering in an Austrian hospital before their return to Turkey.

Of the sacrifice they've made for their daughter, Tugce's father said only, "I just want her to be happy and healthy. I want her to be able to things a normal 15-year-old can - going for walks and going swimming."
