Teenage Pregnancy Video

Would You Show Your Child This Video About Teen Pregnancy?

In a town where one in every 20 teenage girls is pregnant, the kids in Leicester, England came up with a new approach to spreading the word on teen pregnancy. Instead of using the traditional methods of speakers or pamphlets, the Leicester Teenage Pregnancy and Parenthood Partnership came up with the concept of a "homemade" video that would appeal to their peers.

Like many viral videos on the Internet, this one is taped in a Blair Witch fashion. A crowd of students surrounds another teen giving birth on the lawn of her school while her peers scream and shout over the drama of it all. Graphic and shocking in nature, the clip ends with a punch, "Not what you expected? Being a teenage parent might not be either." A potentially effective campaign, would you show this to your child to drive him or her away from the consequences of teen pregnancy?

I think all the resources the better, but parenting comes first, we have to be active in their lives.

I think it's great the kids in that community are trying to help so I give them props. It's not a substitute for parenting, but at least they are trying.

This didn't show anything useful at all! and there's no way you can show responsibility in such a short clip like this. you need real parents talking about all the things they regret (if they do)... in fact if they want to do it they will they're teenagers after all

Ridiculous! I agree with bluepuppy, a real birth would be more terrifying!

I thought it was pretty comical. I would show my teen a real birth.

So the video is basically saying, "don't get pregnant as a teen because you'll have to give birth on a playground surrounded by a bunch of people". That's just dumb. Teens realize that's just BS. Plus, it seems like it's just trying to make giving birth look inherently scary, which it isn't and sends the wrong message to the rest of the population.

Videos like these aren't going to stop teens from getting pregnant. Having parents that are actively involved in their lives and talk to them about everything might make a difference.
