Tell Mommy: Who Is Your Fountain of Parenting Knowledge?

When my daughter develops a high fever at 2 a.m., I call my mom. If I need a good laugh about postpartum appearances, I consult my former college roommates turned mothers. When I am curious as to whether my son is reaching all his developmental milestones, I ask his doctor. The list goes on and on, but like many other mamas, I have amazing resources — people, books, and the Internet — to help me figure out the best way to raise my children. And, of course there's always my husband, my motherly instincts, and common sense. Who is the first person you turn to for parenting advice?

Generally, it's my mom and the pediatrician. One of my good friends has good advice to some point, but often, it's more difficult to talk to her because she's always yelling at her son or her husband when I'm on the phone with her! :)

I don't have kids, but sometimes I wish I had someone to talk to about my (future) stepdaughter! She stays with us every other weekend, and while she is no problem at all, sometimes I just don't know what I should do as Future Stepmom, especially in the years to come. I am pretty close to her already, but I really do not want to cross the line, you know? I am totally fine with the fact that I'm the stepmom, not the "real" mom. Her mom and I have never had a single problem, and we actually get along, but I am just never sure. I've never known anyone else with stepchildren!

I talk to my mom, grandmother, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, father, brothers, or sisters. If I ask any of these people it is because they have kids or because they just know a lot.

I have no single person I turn to first, it totally depends on the situation. My sister, my mom, various friends, etc. For instance, I'd ask my sister about potty-training advice first but I wouldn't turn to her for sleep advice because we have totally different views on that parenting style.
