Why I'm Glad I Grew Up an Only Child

Texts and Tunes: The Polar Express

This classic book ($13), which received the Caldecott Medal for excellence for children's literature, is a great year round read, but is particularly fitting during the holidays.

It's the story of a boy who begins to have doubts about Santa. While listening for sleigh bells on his roof, a steam train headed for the North Pole arrives and the conductor invites him aboard. This book keeps children of all ages engaged with its fantastic illustrations and magical storytelling.

In 2004, Warner Brothers released the movie version of the book which keeps both kids and their parents enthralled. Consider the DVD for a last minute stocking stuffer.

My mom used to read this to me every Christmas Eve...even when I was way too old to have my mom read me stories. I loved this book so much that I was convinced that anything that had gotten a Caldecott award was sheer genius and tried to read them all. :)

This is one of our mutual favorites - we both love it! The art is so beautiful and the story is very exciting for the kiddos.
