Thoughts Moms Have Before the End of Maternity Leave

33 Thoughts All Moms Have Right Before the End of Maternity Leave

Officially returning back to work can be one of the hardest days for a new mom. It doesn't matter how long she had for maternity leave or how eager she is to get back to her career, this new stage can be more than daunting when the first day arrives. As a mom prepares to make this big transition in her newfound routine, these are the major thoughts running through her mind.

  1. Do I have to do this?
  2. How did the weeks go by so fast?
  3. Will my baby be okay?
  4. Will I be okay?
  5. What if I don't belong there anymore?
  6. I am so ready to get back to my old routine.
  7. How the hell am I going to handle my old routine — plus a baby?
  8. Is it too late to back out or try to extend my leave?
  9. Will my little one miss me?
  10. Am I a horrible mom for leaving?
  11. Is it even worse that part of me is excited, too?
  12. Do I remember how to hold an adult conversation — for an entire day?
  13. This is going to be harder than I originally thought.
  14. What if I miss out on something?
  15. I'm definitely going to forget something.
  16. I need to look my best — or at least the best I can at the moment.
  17. Is this just the beginning of working-mom guilt?
  18. I wish I had more of a choice about this.
  19. This isn't fair.
  20. Forget "easing" in, there's going to be nothing easy about this.
  21. Why do I feel so conflicted?
  22. Who is going to cry worse at the first goodbye?
  23. I can barely get everything done in a day as it is.
  24. Will I be able to disconnect when I'm not at work?
  25. Is work-life balance even possible?
  26. Ugh, I was just getting into the swing of things the way they are.
  27. Will people view me differently now that I'm a mom?
  28. Will colleagues assume I can't handle things?
  29. Is it normal to feel this way?
  30. I can't even remember what life was like pre-baby.
  31. How much coffee can I safely consume while breastfeeding?
  32. What if I made the wrong choice about child care?
  33. I'm doing this for my baby.
