Toy Box: Let's Go Shopping

Toy Box: Let's Go Shopping

It's a funny thing how kids learn to love certain things that parents detest. For example, many kids look forward to grocery shopping though their mom or dad despises it. They love the adventure of riding in the cart and grabbing things from the shelves when you're not looking.

As long as they enjoy it, you might as well encourage it. Lakeshore Learning makes a variety of food baskets – vegetable, bread, fruit, meat, cheese, and fish ones. You can purchase them separately for $20 or all four for $75. Life size and made of vinyl, the fake food items are durable. And, while your kids are playing store, you can teach them a thing or two about nutrition and good eating habits.

We actually have a set of these at home and they are very durable. And I love that they are soft and malleable - easy to chew on but hard to destroy. However, I don't think they're dog proof. :)

The one I got at Target is very sturdy, the pieces have been sat on, stepped on, chewed on, etc, and are still the same as when they were purchased. Just been sterilized a few times. ;)

Allie got a kitchen for Christmas and a few sets of food/dishes. The dog lready chewed up the cheap food (we still have the nice wood sets though) so I need to replace it. These are so cute! I wonder how well made they are. Severl of her sets were so thin and cheap looking

Those are very cute! I hate that most food sets are so cheapy. All those cardboard boxes and super thin plastic foods that get crushed so easily...these look like a great alternative.

I'm loving that the meat/fish basket is separate, that way I wouldn't have to buy a general basket and then throw away half of the "groceries" in it.

I love grocery shopping! I always thought it was so cute when the kids were at the stage where they'd bring their own small cart and choose things (with permission) to put in it. We've never had a problem with them grabbing stuff off shelves. Target has a great food set for about $15, and it's huge. The stuff isn't life-sized, but it's big enough to work for them and not take up a huge amount of space in the play area.
