Both of my boys have life-threatening allergies. I hate it. Testing is a trauma (and we go again in April), they feel so left out when they can't have the treats at a party and even my promises of something at home really don't help - we do supply our own treats to help out other Mamas but still. The trip to the hospital in an ambulance is terrifying. We didn't choose this for them, and they certainly didn't deserve it. I'm lucky to have Mamas around me that care and try so hard to keep them safe, and teachers that understand. But even with all that things can still happen. (and they have) Mostly, I wish those without allergy kids could put themselves in our shoes for one day. I think Empathy would come out of that. I'd do anything to keep their kids safe, too. So it really does work both ways. Remember - it takes a village.
