We love books! Our newest favorite is Children's Virtues by Mellisa Jones. A is for attitude Z is for zeal! We enjoy how silly yet meaningful it is. Helping them build character while their young is our goal as parents.

There are many of these books that we read to my daughters but I have to say, "Where the Sidewalk Ends", is a very peculiar and disturbing. A friend recommended it years ago so I bought it without reading through it first. My mother-in-law was babysitting my daughters and went to read it. Well, she stopped after reading the first page of one of the poems because of how strange and disturbing some of the it was. Later we read some of the other poems and donated it to a library. Maybe other parents are okay with this absurd type of literature but there are far better books for kids to read!

Glad to see Berenstain Bears made the list....I adored those books when I was a kid, and all 3 of my boys, 6, 3, and 1, love them. Their favorite is probably The Berenstain Bears Get the Gimmies...they make me stop at parts so they can each take a turn saying (or yelling) the lines. A new old favorite we just discovered is "Caps For Sale" by Esphyr Slobodkina. All my boys love it. As a kid I also loved Norma Jean, Jumping Bean....and Amelia Bedilia. Also a weird little book called Miss Nelson is Missing! about kids misbehaving in class. It was scary and hilarious at the same time. oh...and "Moo, Baa, Lalala" by Sandra Boynton is on this list, love, love. I had that book memorized so quickly when my oldest was a baby! Man there are so many kids books to love....:)

And while I think of it, there are Latin American and Asian books left out! In My Family by Carmen Lomez Garza is a classic and 1000 Paper Cranes, forget the author, fabulous book.

We own about 43 of these books, however, I think there are many books that I would place before many of the ones the ones listed including all of the Caldecott winning Virginia Lee Burton books, specifically Mike Mulligan and the Giant Steam shovel, and, my all-time favorite, The Little House. Make Way for Ducklings, Blueberries for Sal, the Little House-Laura Ingalls books, the Lion Witch and the wardrobe, little Bear, Frog and Toad, Tale if To Bad Mice, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Holes (a contemporary classic like Harry Potter), Tom Sawyer and huckleberry Finn, the list goes on! My daughter who is three and I have read almost all on the list with exception of Harry Potter and Holes. I was also sad to see Black writers left out Faith Ringold and Ezra Jack Keats. My preschooler is better read than most adults I know!
