This Sweet Duckling Baby Shower Is a Must See For Either Gender

This savvy mom-to-be used her nursery plans as the source of inspiration for her baby shower and the results were seriously sweet! Make Way For Ducklings by Robert McCloskey is Laurel's favorite childhood picture book, and she immediately began planning her little's room around the sweet illustrations. At the same time, she also decided to host a part vintage and part whimsy celebration with cheerful pops of bright yellow.

Vintage-inspired mallard name tags welcomed guests to the event, and they were thanked with soy candles decorated with quotes from the story as well as thank you messages from Laurel. Hand painted duck illustrations donned the wow-worthy cake and its bright watermelon center served as an added surprise. For entertainment, guests enjoyed a variety of games and the winners took home handmade yellow and gray clutches complete with duckling-shaped hand lotion. They also collaborated to create a ribbon mobile for the baby's room. "I love that every guest — the women I love most in the world — each had a hand in creating this adorable decoration," said Laurel. "I hung it above my rocking chair in the nursery and think of my guests every time I look at it!"

By deciding on the same theme for her baby shower, Laurel was able to repurpose many of the meaningful decor elements throughout her baby boy's room. From the bunting banner now hanging over the baby's closet to the yarn flowers and duckling blocks dressing up his chest of drawers, many of the yellow and gray accents have added a special touch to Laurel's nursery. "Each guest filled out a 'wishes for baby duck' and I hung up the sweetest ones on empty ribbon spools in the nursery," said Laurel. "My baby will always know he is loved!"
