Photographer Dad Creates a Photo Series in Which His Son With Down Syndrome Can Fly

Alan Lawrence is a dad to six children — one of whom was born with an extra chromosome and has the ability of flight. Yes, you read that right — Wil Lawrence is a little boy with Down Syndrome who can fly.

Back in March, Alan started taking photographs of his kids and photoshopping Wil into the frame mid-flight, which was achieved by holding Wil up himself and then editing out his body later. This isn't the first year the family has taken these photos — last year a 17-month-old Wil flew in the pictures — but the family decided that this year they would turn the photos into a calendar, and donate half of the proceeds to two Down Syndrome foundations.

The family hopes to raise awareness and money, but also wants to remind people that those with special needs can do anything they put their minds to — even fly. Alan and his family celebrate Wil's differences and hope that others can do the same:

"Wil has brought a new dimension to our family and has helped us to look past the world's preconceived notions of normal. We look forward to witnessing more of Wil's unconditional love as he grows, and to discover how to truly live life through him."
