18 Reasons Adele Is the Role Model Our Kids — and We — Need in This World

Adele's résumé is already long and impressive, but I'd like to add a new piece to it: role model. My love and respect for Adele run deep, and for years she has been someone I look up to, but as I get older, I realize she is also someone I would be proud to say my kids believe is their role model. She is strong, she is successful, she is kind, and she is downright hilarious. Adele carries out her life with an air of confidence in herself and is unapologetic about sharing her feelings and opinions, no matter what they may be. As a wife and mother, she strives to fiercely protect her private life from the public but is never quiet about how much she loves her husband and son.

At only 29 years old, Adele has already accomplished so much, and she's endlessly humble about it. Yes, her success is inspirational, but her attitude toward life is more so. She is someone I shamelessly admire, and these 18 reasons are exactly why our kids should do the same.

After bailing on her tour in 2008, she later told Nylon that she won't be doing that again. She's a true believer that no matter your age, mistakes are OK! What matters most is that you learn from them and do better next time.

She knows it's OK to start over

During her George Michael tribute at the 2017 Grammys, Adele stopped midway through her song and asked to start over. Because you know what? It's OK to fail in public and try again.

03

She believes in feeling your feelings

"Sometimes you have to allow yourself to be sad in order to move forward," Adele said on Today in 2015. Just frame that quote and put it in your child's room. There's nothing wrong with crying — boy, girl, adult, dog — everyone can cry if that will help you express your feelings.

She told Vogue, "I really like how I look, I like who I am, I like everyone that I surround myself with." Childhood can be a tough time when it comes to fitting in and making friends, and Adele's words are worth repeating over and over.

05

If she doesn't like doing something she has to do, she makes it fun

Adele isn't shy about showing her distaste for something, like exercise for example, but rather than not do it, she makes light of it to make it through. Maybe she'll inspire your little one to make homework or gym class more fun!

06

She lets it go

When she experienced some technical difficulties during her 2016 Grammys performance, Adele was understandably very, very upset. But rather than dwell on it, she let it go and moved on. We all know kids can get very, very upset about literally anything, but is there a better role model that proves moving forward is the best way?

She is so supportive of her peers

Adele often praises other artists for their work. She is a team player in the industry, which is a great lesson for children to apply at school and team sports.

She embraces her quirks

During one of her shows in 2016, Adele mentioned that while pregnant, she grew a pregnancy beard and she was totally OK with it. Because everyone should be totally OK with being different.

09

She supports women

It's never too early to start teaching our kids to be kind to everyone, but specially to support other girls — Adele has shown us how to do this more than once.

She shares her good fortune

During Adele's Carpool Karaoke, she told James Corden about paying for people's meals and giving out tickets to her shows. From sharing toys to sharing a lunch with someone who might not have one, your kids can learn a lot from Adele's move.

She proves you can be successful even when you start small

Believe it or not, Adele was discovered on MySpace. A friend posted her music, and the rest is history. She's living proof that dreams, no matter how big or how impossible they may seem, can come true.

12

She always has a good time

As evidenced by many photos on her Instagram, Adele makes sure to always have a good time. She can show your kids life should be about enjoying the fun things!

Adele is not quiet about her love for people. She loves Beyoncé. She loves Rihanna. She loves her son and husband. She tells everyone about it because saying "I love you" makes a difference.

14

She promotes body confidence

Adele is very comfortable in her own skin. She said in 2009, "I have never been insecure, ever, about how I look, about what I want to do with myself." It's all about learning to love yourself.

She loves animals

Adele knows that animals are a part of the family. She's been known to call her Dachshund, Louie, the love of her life. Just like kids should treat every person with respect, they should also treat their pets the same. And love them endlessly!

16

She enjoys the little things

Adele reminds us all to find joy in even the little things in life. Maybe being at the front of the line to bring the class back in from recess doesn't sound like a big deal to you or me, but it might have been the highlight of your child's week, and celebrating that is important for them.

She literally broke her Grammy in half to share with Beyoncé

Adele actually loves and supports Beyoncé so much that she broke one of her Grammys in half to presumably share it with her. This very Mean Girls-esque moment is a legitimate life lesson for anyone, because it's always good to not only share your good fortune and praise your friends for their good work, but be humble enough to give credit where credit is due.

She has built her success on pure talent

Adele is a poster child for being a strong, successful woman who has reached her status through talent and hard work. In an industry where looks are so important, Adele is unapologetic about being a different type of beautiful and instead uses her singing and songwriting skills as her main hook. She's released numerous hit songs, smashed records, won countless awards, and still remains humble and true to herself. She embodies everything we could all hope our kids may grow up to be.
