8 Holiday Activities Your Teen Will Actually Enjoy

You know those movies your teen couldn’t get enough of when they were kids? Well, that love is still in there somewhere. Turn on a classic, and see what happens. We bet, as long as you don’t announce it, a family movie night will come to you.

One of the best ways to ensure your teen has a good time is by letting them feel in control. So why not let them use those talents gained from growing up with an iPhone to take your holiday photos? Sure, the photos may be a little artsy (and might include a selfie or two) but as long as your kids are having fun and expressing their creative abilities, who cares?

No matter how cool you think you are, helping others is one activity we all could use a little more of. Take your teen to a local soup kitchen or volunteer event, and we promise they’ll light up in no time.

Test out your teen's Pinterest game, and work together to find a recipe you both love. Is your teen not into baking? Have them taste test two or three recipes you're working on, then let them sound off on their faves and least faves.

If your holidays are usually spent inside, switch things up and take a trip to the slopes. Your teens will likely enjoy the new scenery and opt to snowboard. Not a skiing family? Think about other out-of-the-ordinary activities like snowmobiling, a family nature walk, or a massive snowball fight.

Hygge — the Danish word used to describe cozy moments — is a perfect goal for the sometimes hectic holiday season. How do you do it? Bring everyone together one night, light your candles and fireplace, make some cocoa, and just be together. Yes, cell phones are allowed, but so are beautiful, quiet moments that actually mean more than any Christmas gift could.

Gather the family together and have a gift-wrapping competition. Obviously, don't spoil any gift surprises, but challenge your teen to figure out unique ways to wrap gifts with materials you have around the house. Newspaper, magazines, and (yep!) even old hair ribbons are all fair game!

Host a fun bonfire at your house complete with yummy food and cozy blankets. Let your teen invite a few friends and enjoy their conversation while gorging on some hot cocoa and s'mores.
