This DIY Wardrobe Station Will Make You Want to Spend Your Entire Paycheck on Kids Clothes

The following story by Noelle Bryant was originally published on the Oh Happy Play blog.

Kid's clothes can pile up quickly, and organizing them seems to be a task just about every parent can relate to. I can't count the number of times my husband would open the girls' dressers and, despite being stockpiled with clothes, it seemed like there was never anything suitable for them to wear. The truth is, they have a lot to wear, but because their clothes were so unorganized, nothing really stood out. It only got worse when we moved the girls into the same room a few months ago to prepare for their new brothers. After a few weeks of that chaos, my OCD eventually caught up to me, and I knew I needed to come up with a better solution: creating a supereasy DIY wardrobe station (with free printables!).

I came up with the idea of creating a dressing station for the girls, and I really love how it turned out. I knew I wanted them each to have their own space with their own set of clothes, and I wanted it to be a space that they could navigate independently. This stems from my love of the Montessori Method, and I try to incorporate those philosophies in our everyday routine. I used two Trofast Storage Units from Ikea and screwed them together (I also anchored them to the wall to avoid a tipping hazard). On one side, I used three Ikea Trofast Storage boxes, and on the other, I used a small tension rod.

To make it simple, I narrowed down their wardrobes to three items (tops, bottoms, and dresses) and used these printables to label the bins. I printed these at home and used small, self-lamenting labels I found at Target to make them thicker/more durable. I then added double-sided sticky tape to attach to the coordinating bins.

Socks and Underwear: my girls share these items, so for these I made a separate unit using Target Pillowfort Stackable Wood Bins and labeled them accordingly.
