The public continues to process and mourn the loss of Anthony Bourdain following his death on June 8 [1] at age 61. In addition to the many public figures who have paid tribute [2] to the celebrated chef and television host, Barack Obama honored Bourdain with a touching message on Twitter.

The former president appeared on Bourdain's Parts Unknown during a 2016 episode which focused on Hanoi, Vietnam. In his tweet, Obama quoted Bourdain's description of the meal [3] they shared: "Low plastic stool, cheap but delicious noodles, cold Hanoi beer." Obama added, "This is how I'll remember Tony. He taught us about food — but more importantly, about its ability to bring us together. To make us a little less afraid of the unknown. We'll miss him."

Bourdain later recounted his experience meeting Obama [6] in an article for CNN. "I will sure as sh*t remember this trip to Vietnam," Bourdain wrote. "Not very long ago at all, I was a 44-year-old guy still dunking French fries with no hope of ever seeing Rome, much less Hanoi — much less EVER sitting across from the President of the United States, talking about hot dogs."
