"I want to thank Donald Trump [1]," isn't what you'd expect to hear out of Vice President Joe Biden [2]'s mouth. But he said it on Super Tuesday [3] during a Black History Month event at the Naval Observatory, getting laughs from the crowd. Biden was joking — kind of. He went on to acknowledge that the GOP front runner has made us address the subtle racism that exists in this country.
"But guess what? The stuff he's doing and others, including [Ted] Cruz and others, he's making the American people look in the mirror," he said. "And the American people are honest. And they look in the mirror and see what's looking back at them."
Indeed, Trump's incendiary remarks about Muslims [4] and Mexicans is unlike anything we've seen in presidential candidate in recent times. "Maybe the divisiveness, particularly with the other team right now, maybe it's a good thing, to awaken the American people about the subtle and not-so-subtle deals going on," he added, referring to the GOP party, according to a Politico report [5].
Biden said his biggest hope is that someday soon we can eliminate institutional and subtle racism [6] thanks to a new generation — and it looks like that generation isn't voting for Trump [7].
