Joe Biden Regrets "Not Being President" and We Can't Handle It

Mar 27 2017 - 6:25pm

Joe Biden [1] has once again left us misty-eyed. The former vice president spoke to college students at Colgate University in New York on March 25 and shared his biggest regrets, including not being president. "I had planned on running for president," Biden revealed. "And although it would have been a very difficult primary, I think I could have won. At the end of the day, I just couldn't do it. So I don't regret not running. Do I regret not being president? Yes."

Biden also expressed that he did not regret deciding against a campaign for the presidency following the death of his 46-year-old son, Beau [2], who died of brain cancer in May 2015. "I don't regret not running in the sense that it was the right decision for my boy, for me, for my family at the time," Biden said [3].

"I didn't run because no man or woman should announce they're running for president of the United States unless they can look the public in the eye and promise you they can give you 100% of [their] attention and dedication to this effort. I couldn't do that."

While speaking with the students, Biden shared who he believes was the "best qualified" person to succeed President Barack Obama. "No man or woman announces for president of the United States unless they honestly believe that from their experience they're the best-qualified person to do that. And at the time I thought that the circumstances were such that I was the best qualified."

After a lifetime of civil service, Biden is unquestionably more experienced in governance than the current president.
