On April 22, meteorologist James Spann shared a photo of a tree burning from the inside following a severe thunderstorm that passed through Northeast Mississippi. "This tree was hit by lightning in Baldwyn, MS. It burned the inside," Spann wrote. But his words weren't enough to convince people on the internet that the fire was not caused by something supernatural. "preeeeeetty sure this is a portal to hell but ok yea lighting," one user tweeted [4]. Read on to see the other LOL-worthy reactions the internet had to the spooky picture ahead.

Then there's J.R. Salzman casually dropping some scientific facts.
The heartwood, or center of a tree, is dead and has very little moisture. The outer sapwood is alive and is full of water so it doesn't burn https://t.co/tkyY5dSiPX [26]
