What a Trump Supporter Did to This Hijab-Wearing Airport Employee Will Infuriate You

Jan 31 2017 - 9:50am

On Wednesday night, 57-year-old Robin A. Rhodes was waiting for his connecting flight to Massachusetts at JFK airport in New York when he approached Rabeeya Khan [1], an airline worker wearing a hijab, and kicked her, saying, "Trump is here now."

According to a statement [2] from District Attorney Robert Brown, Khan was sitting in her office between 7:10 and 9:45 on Jan. 25 when Rhodes approached her door and said, "Are you [expletive deleted] sleeping? Are you praying? What are you doing?" He then punched the door and said, "You did nothing but I am going to kick your [expletive deleted] ass," and kicked her in the leg. Khan allegedly ran to the corner of her office and Rhodes stepped into the office and prevented her from leaving.

Because another employee got involved to try and calm Rhodes down, Khan was able to run out of her office and to the front desk. According to the statement [3], Rhodes followed her to the front desk, got on his knees, and mocked Muslim prayer, shouting, "[expletive deleted] Islam, [expletive deleted] ISIS, Trump is here now. He will get rid of all of you. You can ask Germany, Belgium, and France about these kind of people. You will see what happens."

Rhodes has been charged with assault, unlawful imprisonment, menacing, and harassment as hate crimes for attacking Khan. This frightening event seems to be a part of a larger trend in hate crimes surrounding Donald Trump's election [4].
