The Powerful Reason Michelle Obama Teared Up During Her DNC Speech

Jul 25 2016 - 7:44pm

First Lady Michelle Obama took the stage at the DNC to make a powerful case for Hillary Clinton. Giving a stirring speech, the first lady made a connection between her husband's legacy as the nation's first black president and the historical nature of Hillary's candidacy. Michelle got teary-eyed during that portion of her speech, saying:

"I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves and I watch my daughters, two beautiful, intelligent black young women, playing with their dogs on the White House lawn. Because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters, and all our sons and daughters, now take for granted that a woman can be the president of the United States."

Given the positive reaction from the crowd in Philadelphia, PA, Michelle Obama could prove to be a strong political ally for Hillary Clinton. She appeared to have both Bernie and Hillary supporters cheering as she argued that Hillary is the most responsible choice for president, a person who can be trusted with the nuclear codes and who will build a better future.

The president was also impressed and shared his pride on Twitter:

Incredible speech by an incredible woman. Couldn't be more proud & our country has been blessed to have her as FLOTUS. I love you, Michelle.
