President Obama's Advice to His Daughters Is Exactly What America Needs to Hear Right Now

Jan 20 2017 - 10:10am

President Obama's last press conference [1] was held on Wednesday morning, and in it, he addressed his recent commutations, the consequences of economic inequality, and his minimal "overlap" in policy with President-elect Donald Trump. However, what stood out most was the advice Obama gave his daughters, Malia and Sasha, after the election.

"They were disappointed," Obama admitted. "They paid attention to what their mom said during the campaign and believed it because it's consistent with what we've tried to teach them in our household, what I've tried to model as a father with their mom, and what we've asked them to expect from future boyfriends or spouses."

Obama shared how he encouraged his daughters in the wake of the election — and it's sound guidance for all Americans. Teaching resilience and hope, Obama added, "The only thing that is the end of the world is the end of the world."

Characteristically, Obama also bragged about Malia and Sasha [4]. "My daughters are something, and they just surprise and enchant and impress me more and more every single day as they grow up," Obama praised.

Obama's counsel to his daughters also reflects his affirmation of the youth's power. Like his daughters, America's young people can challenge and change what may be potentially threatened [8] over the next four years.
