Following the mass shooting at Orlando, FL, nightclub Pulse [4], President Obama addressed the nation about what he referred to as a "horrific massacre of dozens of innocent people." It was the deadliest mass shooting in US history.

After meeting with FBI Director James Comey and national security advisers, Obama gave what is his estimated 15th speech following a shooting in the nation. Though they have not reached a definitive conclusion on shooter Omar Mateen's motives, Obama said, "We know enough to say that this was an act of terror and an act of hate."

Obama then addressed those affected by the shooting, especially focusing on the attack's LGBT victims. He said, "The place where they were attacked was more than a nightclub, it was a place of solidarity and empowerment." He added that Pulse was an important place for the community to "advocate for their civil rights."

He ended the speech with a note about the shooter's use of an assault rifle and a handgun, before reasserting his position on gun safety when he said, "To actively do nothing is a decision, as well."
