- Case closed: Rolling Stone has reached a settlement in the defamation case against it. The magazine was sued by a former University of Virginia employee after it published a contested report of a gang rape at the school. Nicole Eramo, a former associate dean who sued Rolling Stone for implying that she ignored the victim, was awarded $3 million [3] of the $7.5 million she sought.
- Over in Australia, Parliament voted against allowing citizens to vote on same sex marriage [4]. Much like a referendum vote, the ruling would allow Australians to decide if gay marriage can be legal. Instead, the members of parliament will decide themselves, according to BBC.
- Speaking of international headlines, residents of India are facing a smog crisis. The smog levels are as high as 16 times the acceptable limit in some Indian cities. The New York Times reports that simply going outside for an extended amount of time is equivalent to smoking more than two packs of cigarettes a day [5].
