It can be difficult to admit that you're a news junkie. Don't fret, sometimes I even have trouble admitting it to myself. In case you're not sure if this label applies to you, here are some telltale signs.
- The first thing you do in the morning is check Twitter.
- You know that Twitter is a better resource for breaking news than most outlets.
- Your friends ask you for a rundown of what's going on in the world.
- You have at least 15 news sites bookmarked.
- It's not true unless the Associated Press says so.
- You've almost forgotten what a real newspaper feels like.
- Your internet homepage is your favorite news website.
- You have all the cable news channels memorized.
- You follow all your favorite journalists on Twitter obsessively.
- You're constantly refreshing your timeline for new updates on breaking stories.
- You use Twitter's search function to find out anything and everything that's going on.
- You'll watch your least favorite news channel, just to hear their opinion.
- You have quite the trove of random facts stored in your brain.
- You subscribe to more than one morning/evening digest email from news sites.
- You know the difference between clickbait and a substantive story.
- You can't stand when people get the facts of a story wrong.
- You correct people when they get the facts of a story wrong.
- You have breaking news updates set up on your phone.
- Those push notification news updates give you a jolt of intrigue.
- You want to talk current events at dinner parties, even though it might not be perfect etiquette.
- You form an opinion on most topics.
- Docu-series and documentaries are your favorite shows and movies to watch.
- You know how to assess the reliability of a story.
- You feel like you're missing out if you don't know what's going on.
- You listen to news podcasts in your free time.
- You can name at least five NPR hosts.
