On Jan. 26, Saturday Night Live [1]'s timely cold open featured veteran comedian Steve Martin [2] as recently indicted Roger Stone [3]. Martin portrayed President Donald Trump [4]'s former aide during an interview with Tucker Carlson (played by Alex Moffat), and they discussed the seven charges against Stone.
SNL's Carlson attempted to steer Stone toward a narrative of self-pity and frailty. "The pity thing . . . I'm a poor, helpless old man. I'm 66, I'm almost as old as Sting!" Martin's Stone said. He ended his remarks with a bold request for the president: "Pardon me!"
